iTunes being ridiculous...

I'm using iTunes 8 on vista ultimate x64 and it's decided to keep popping up at inopertune moments (eg, when writing a lengthy paragraph), it then steals focus causing me to have to stop doing what I'm doing, move to the mouse and change focus (could use alt + tab I guess). To make it even worse, when I don't notice that it's done this, spacebar pauses the song and backspace tries to delete it from my library. It's only started doing this recently but it's really starting to annoy me.

keyboard shortcut maybe?

I don't get the issues you've got but my keyboard media keys don't work with v8 so obviously theres been a few alterations with it's keyboard integration.

Oh look - some anti-iTunes posts.
That really helps the OP out.
Maybe, like a lot of people, he actually finds iTunes useful and an extremely good piece of software?

I use Ultimate64 and I also upgraded to iTunes 8 on its release day.
I cannot say that I have had this problem at all - not the answer you seek, but confirmation something is "wrong" and it shouldn't be doing it.
I'll do some Google work later and see if I can find anything.

The people that find it better are the type of people to use the iTunes software CD with their iPod to "install" their iPod ;)

People find it better because they don't know any better.

MediaMonkey far surpasses anything iTunes can do, winamps not bad either.

I had this issue when I installed iTunes 8.

Turned out to be related to MSN Messenger displaying what track iTunes is currently playing. If you turn off this integration, (my work machine has neither of these on so I can't tell you how), then it should stop iTunes coming to the foreground every 30 seconds.
