itunes for a new ipod user = laptop out of the window!

First time user of an ipod and am being frustrated by transferring content using itunes. Is there an easier program to use or am i stuck with itunes?

For instance, everything seems to go into the one section on the nano including podcasts etc. How can i manually place files into the correct sections of my ipod.

Eh? It has Music, Movies, TV Shows and then Podcasts or something on my Touch.

The iPod should put them in the correct sections automatically, at least this is the case with downloaded podcasts from the store.
