itunes freezing when iphone connected?

I am using vista 64 and when i open itunes and connect my iphone 3g 3.0,
itune freezes and will not sync.
If I disconnect my iphone, it unfreezes.
Using latest version of itunes.

Anyone else get this? Whenever I connect my iphone lately itunes just freezes and doesnt sync. Sytem gives me the autoplay option thinking its a digital camera or storage device though....
