Hi all,

Got an email from a friend at my work, she has basic knowledge of anything in IT. She uses a windows based machine.
It's to do with iTunes of which i know very little to be honest, so i thought i'd ask on these forums.
This is what she has asked me

"I need some help, I am trying to download an ipod software update 2.2 i think it is, for my ipod touch. In my itunes download thingy it says that it still has 90 hours before the download will be complete! How can I speed this up? I am using wireless broadband but don't know what my monthly download allowance is? My provider is utility warehouse if that is anything to do with it!!"

As i've mentioned i don't know much about iTunes but for the updates do you need to get the update from a download to the pc, or could i get a copy of the said downloaded file and pass it on to her for her to then somehow install it to her ipod touch?

Many thanks in advance for your replies ;)

Sounds like she has TalkTalk/Carphone Warehouse as her ISP, direct links can be found at the below. You would need to know which she needs though 1st or 2nd gen iPod Touch.

Nice one mate, i'll get some more info from her asap and get a reply on here regarding what she has and take it from there.

ps is there a difference between the 1st gen and 2nd like the iPhone with a different coloured back, ie silver-ish colour 1st gen and black for 2nd gen?

For differences between iPod Touch's;

Here are the latest firmware files for each device.

You can download them yourself, put them on a USB stick and upgrade her iPod Touch yourself if she's gone past her download cap.

Each update is around 275MB, so it wouldn't take long on a 1MB connection.

iPod Touch V1 - http://pfd.apple.com/ProtectedAsset...y=1227821176_b0be8cf4ec75e1cb9276aa70a5871e4c

iPod Touch V2 - http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite...090127.rt56K/iPod2,1_2.2.1_5H11a_Restore.ipsw

Hold Shift and click "Update" or "Restore" and point iTunes to the location of the upgrade file (.ipsw) and let it do it's thing.
