Itunes help (reformatting laptop)

For ages now ive had issues with Itunes and my iphone. It will not let me restore from backups and this means i cannot update my iphone 4. My laptop could do with a good clean up so I’m going to reformat it over the weekend. What’s the best way to back up my contacts / Aps i have paid for. Obviously photos and music is easy but I’m not so sure about the contacts / aps as i want to reset my iphone and start on a fresh. I’ve tried all sorts to fix the issue including removing mcfee and reinstalling itunes

Sync your contacts with Google or Windows Address book, so you know the data is safe.

As far as keeping iTunes. Just back up the whole iTunes folder and when you reformat hold shift when you start iTunes for the first time, then point it to the backup you kept.

Viola! All your apps are saved. All you have to do then is resync your contacts.

Might be worth upgrading the BIOS if possible . Dad's i5 PC just would not play ball with his iPhone 3GS until he upgraded the BIOS.
