Right...

My MBP has a small HDD (320 Gb) which is quickly filling up... When it comes to iTunes I have all my music going through it and would like to have all my films/TV shows going through it.... However

Is it possible to have iTunes store my music on the internal HDD and the TV/Films on an external HDD which I can plug in as and when i want to watch them...

Yes, untick the "copy files when adding to library", in the preferences, and whatever you add will only be available from which the location it was added.
