itunes is a joke

I have plenty of music obtained from places other than the itunes store, which all work fine.

I download one song from itunes, put it on my ipod, and attempting to play it freezes up itunes and thus my whole computer.

Bit of an unfair generalisation there. I (and thousands of others) have download songs from iTunes fine and have never encountered one problem.

Exactly - if iTunes was flawed to the degree you've just described then I think there would be a lot more people complaining about it.

So, the old questions.

What OS are you running?
If Vista are you running 32bit or 64bit.

What version of iTunes are you running?
No official Vista support until version 7.2 (latest build is 7.3.0.54)

iTunes is a joke but only because you can't copy your own music back off your iPod with it

except you can copy stuff off it, purchased content anyway...

OT iTunes is not a joke, it is a good piece of software compared to Sonicstage, WMP etc...

I think a lot of people bought an ipod just for the status symbol . I have quite a few mp3 players and the quality is just as good [I dont think better than a ipod], some USB pendrive type ones and a couple of SD card type ones . I never liked the idea of having my music locked on to the device or the device locked to the PC/laptop like an ipod .With the ones I use I can swop music from device to device , PC to Pc without any problems and I dont need any fancy software to do it .

I guess it's hard to manually go into the iPod in explorer and copy stuff.
Last I looked (I don't own an iPod anymore) they were all in random folders with random file names. Hardly convenient.

Have you tried playing it in wmp or another app, that should tell you if the problem lies with itunes or the file. If it's itunes, something has been corrupted. So uninstall and reinstall a fresh copy, remembering to back up your media library files.

Search tool does wonders. ;)

Type in the artist/track name then search and bingo.

Itunes Songs = crap quality + drm + rip off pricing.

since when did Itunes decide what format you save music at?

Also Itunes store sell unprotected high quality mp3 files for an extra 20p/

What? AAC is the format itunes songs are in last time I checked.

Yes even more of a rip off, and still only 256kbps.

The day they offer lossless and remove drm on all songs is the day they will become worthwhile buying.
