Ok I'm really trying to get along with iTunes but the thing is just a pile of rubbish. I had a few problems with iTunes so went in the Apple store and had a chat to a guy there who was cool and told me I need to give it time and once I got all my music set up right I'll like it.... Ok cool, so i spent hours sorting out my music deleting odd songs, doing album art and making it look nice.

Now when I click on a tune to play I'm getting a exclamation mark next to it and it asks me if I want to find the song.. AHHHHHHH

Its seems its no longer in the default iTunes folder and have to find it on my external HD where i imported them from, and that's for each song. I'm losing the will to live with it now so anyone got any ideas as I don't want to import and sort out a new library again.

Righty :)

iTunes (in the menu bar) > Preferences > Advanced

Is "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" ticked?

If it isn't, then whenever you add a file to iTunes it'll add it to the library but not move the file. If it is then iTunes will copy the file to the iTunes Music folder when you import.

Now, the simplest way to get things working again:

1. Plug in all external HDDs etc. again
2. Open (or restart iTunes if it was open)
3. Are all the songs now playable?
4. If they are, (in the menu bar) click Advanced > Consolidate Library. This'll copy every track that's not in your iTunes Music folder (but in your library) to the iTunes music folder
5. Done

Oh, and deleting a track in the filesystem doesn't make iTunes automatically remove it. However if you move a track iTunes (on Mac OS X) does magically follow it to where you put it :)

Not working

You point the reference on iTunes back to the original file.

Rich

That will take me years as you have to do it track by track
