iTunes Match woes

So, I thought I'd give iTunes Match a go and so far it's been a complete disaster.

It's failed at pretty much every stage but a restart has usually sorted out each problem.

However, I've got completely stuck at "Step 3: Uploading artwork and remaining songs.". It gets to this stage and either crashes iTunes (!!!) or gets stuck on the first few songs (with 0 inbound/outbound network traffic showing):

If iTunes crashes, it tells me to sign out and sign back in when I open iTunes again.

Has anyone experienced something similar and know how to fix it? My entire music collection is around 9000 tracks, mostly ripped from CD in iTunes. I also have quite few TV programmes and films in iTunes (ripped from DVD) but I assume that they aren't part of iTunes match.

Kind of. I left my computer running for a few days and at some point it uploaded the rest. Patience seems to be the only solution.

I've also found the Apple's servers hate Google's DNS servers (or visa-versa). Switching back to BT's DNS servers speed up my iTunes downloads (and possibly uploads) significantly. I still don't get anywhere near the speeds I get on Steam though. :(
