iTunes Music

Hey,

I have just copied all my music from my old windows HDD to my new iMac and placed it in users/<name>/music/organised music.

The organised music folder is where all my music has been stored since i started using iTunes many months ago on Windows.

I copied my iTunes library and it all shows up nicely in iTunes except iTunes cannot locate the actual files themselves. When i try to play one it asks me if i can locate it so i do that and it's fine but it only does it for one specific track. It does give me an option to allow iTunes to use that location to find other tracks but that doesn't seem to do anything. How can I fix the locations for all the files at once?

You need to copy it to the location you have set in the iTunes preferences as the music file. Also copy other the library file and then select that by holding option whilst you launch iTunes. It should then pick up all the music and correct the location in the library file.

But i don't want my music in that location.

That location already has tv shows, films, podcasts and apps in so i can't change that location. My music is already where I want it, I just want the tracks in itunes to link to their appropriate files correctly.

Hmmm, Right this is obviously not working.

Can someone give me full steps on how i move my entire library from my Windows machine to the mac.

I have reset iTunes on mac back to defaults with a brand new and empty library.

Basically on Windows I had iTunes set up as follows:

I had Music > Organised Music

This folder was structured as <Artist>/<Album>/<Track.ext>

Basically I manually managed and organised my music as I had tons on cd which i ripped and sorted in this way and placed correctly in this folder.

Once it was organised all I had to do was dragit into the iTunes window and all was good.

Recently I have been buying more stuff from the iTunes store (music, videos, podcasts and books. Anything from the stores is stored normally within the Music/iTunes folder.

So what I want to know is how do I transfer iTunes from Windows set up like the above to a fresh install of iTunes on mac.

I wish to pretty much move the Organised Music folder into Users/<name>/Music so I need all the paths to the files to be correct.

Please can someone help me with this.
