Iv'e got around 40gb of music collection. With my new macbook pro, i put all my music to the "music" folder. Now, I start i tunes for the first time (it's empty) and drag the music folder into the library. After about an hour of waiting it finally collects all my music. However, some of my music are shown twice! I already checked the original folders and no i dont have 2 copies of the same music.

Now i tried erasing all the music in the itunes library, and do it again. Same thing happens. Does anyone know what's the cause of this?

Just remove all the tracks and re-import them?

At least you know all the M3U playlists are gone! Only downside is the import time.

yeah the import time took more than an hour.

I have another question.. Does all the music i put in the library get copied to another folder? I noticed my original music folder only had exactly 35.82GB of music. After importing my music to itunes, there's a new folder in my "music" folder called "iTunes" which is 35.36GB. Does this mean itunes simply copied all my original music? Can I now put all my music to an external hard drive and just leave the "iTunes" folder?

if you have the option checked in Preferences > Advanced > Importing (I think) to copy your music then yeah it'll copy it and you can do what you want with the originals

hi, yeah i checked preferences and indeed it is ticked. everything's getting clear to me now. sorry for all the silly questions as im still quite new to all this. thanks for the help guys
