Hello everyone

I've had this problem for a couple of days, and it's driving me spare. When I plug my iPhone into the PC, iTunes freezes and remains unresponsive till I unplug it again. Windows itself recognises the phone when plugged in.

I have uninstalled then reinstalled iTunes, Apple mobile device manager and all other iTunes components with no success. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the USB driver. After none of this worked I tried a system restore to before the problem started. All other USB devices are functioning normally.

iTunes recognises the same phone on my netbook.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all out of ideas.

By any chance are you running 64 bit windows on your desktop and 32 bit on your netbook? I also experience random freezes in iTunes on my desktop (with or without my iPod touch connected).

Yes. iTunes works fine until I plug in my phone, then the little wheel starts spinning for aroung ten minutes. When it finishes iTunes works again, but my phone doesn't appear in it.

I know this isn't a solution, and I'm honestly not being funny, but have you tried just disconnecting and reconnecting a few times in succession? :) I get this occasionally and just a couple of attempts fixes it.

I haven't tried doing that systematically yet. At the moment I'm recovering to a system image from last week. The driver file the mobile device driver seems to need doesn't appear to exist on my system no matter how many times I reinstall iTunes.

I have given up with trying to work out why my iPhone wont work with iTunes.

I use W7 HP x64 and have never had problems up until recently whereby I plug my phone into the PC and iTunes freezes. Even after waiting a while it still doesnt recognise the phone. I have tried the phone in another computer (32 bit W7) and it works fine.

I cant even blame it onto SP1 as it started doing it just before I installed SP1.

I have re-installed iOS4 and iTunes however to no gain.

Re: my last post

I seem to have got the computer to recognise the phone by plugging it into a different USB port. Instead of using the front ports of the PC I plugged it into one of the rear USB ports and it worked.

Fixed by restoring from a system image I created before installing SP1 :D Reinstalled SP1 and it still works :)

Still no idea what was wrong. Changing USB port did nothing, and I followed all the Apple troubleshooting guides through with no success. If youve got a good backup, and a system image from when it last worked, this might work for you as well.
