Hi guys,

I use iTunes with my Ipod on my main machine. I've spent ages setting it up and tagging albums as compilations, etc etc.

I'd like to copy my music collection and iTunes to my Laptop so I can still Sync my ipod etc when I'm away from home.

Is this possible or am I basically going to need to import my entire music collection and tag all the compilations all over again? Plus what will happen when I connect my Ipod to the Laptop?

Thanks!

You can only sync your iPod with one computer. If you plug your iPod into a different computer then it will give you the option to erase and re-sync.

You could copy the iTunes library XML file to the laptop to preserve any structure and any metadata that isn't stored in the music files themselves (right?)

Unless of course its 'manually managed' so it doesn't auto sync.

The best bet would be to put all your music on your iPod, then use a program like Senuti to rip it from the iPod to the 2nd machine, this way it will keep all your tagging and compilation data intact.

Just copy the iTunes library files (there's about 3, usually located within My Music > iTunes), an xml file and a m3a or something file. Those two determine the library, so if you copy those files onto the other computer the iPod will think that either one is the same library (if that makes sense?)

I feel like I've waffled a bit here!

Can't you do it with multiple iTunes libraries?

E.g. hold down option when opening iTunes from the dock.
