Hi Folks,

My brother has just got himself a new mac mini and is having a bit of difficulty with iTunes. Due to the limited size of the mac minis HDD he has bought a 250gb external HDD to keep all his media on (60gb of music). However, in order to put it into iTunes the program actually copies the files over onto the mac minis HDD where iTunes is installed.

He can't install iTunes on his external HDD (OS X won't let him!) so is there anything he can do where the iTunes is on the mac mini HDD and the actual music files are on the external USB HDD? The reason he wants to use iTunes is that he can then access his music using the apple remote.

Cheers all

Matt

If you go into the preferences of iTunes he can change his music folder to the one on the external harddrive where he keeps all his music.

He can also stop iTunes moving his music. There is a option that says "Copy my songs into itunes folder when played" or something like that (Sorry im at work). Just unselect it and it should work fine :)

This should work fine as I use an external drive with my mac mini and the music is all stored on the external drive.

Hope that helps.
