Sorry if some of these questions seem stupid or obvious, but i have never been interested in itunes up until now so i dont know much about it at all.

Firstly, wikipedia says by Q2 2009 itunes store will be DRM free. Does this mean if i purchase a DRM free song i can play it on any number of PCs or devices?

Will the music i plan to get on itunes store be playable on mobile phones other then the iphone? I have a sony erricson so does that mean itunes store music is not compatible?

In the event that my computer should die on me, will i be able to simply log into my itunes account from a new computer and download the songs i have purchased again, or will i be forced to purchase my collection all over again?

Not sure about the other questions but Apple do not let you re-download the music if something happens to the files. Its the users responsibility to back them up as like any other file.

Well thats a bit stupid IMO. I was hoping it would be like steam in that once you purchase something, its linked to that account forever and so can be redownloaded if required.

The drm is pretty much already gone, so you should be able to copy the music freely to any number of devices, and it should play on anything that can play aac files. So yes - your Sony phone should manage fine.

As has been said, it's your job to back up the files.

Just restore from your backup. Your data is your responsibility. Music files aren't like games through Steam where you will always download the latest version.
