iTunes - Slow Performance

I've been using the latest version for about a week now but it's really starting to cheese me off with it's performance. When I scroll it's so slow and seems to hang, I can't even use firefox at the same time without it hanging. Are there any options I can change to make it faster? I've had a look in preferences but can't find anything.

If it stays like this I might have to try the winamp plugin!

Mines the same. I keep trying to download old versions as i liked the 6 series more, but theres something i'm missing and it auto-updates to the newest version everytime.

I can't add my music folder now its got 4500+ songs in without itunes "encountering an error"

mp3's sorted into folders + winamp lite > itunes

Exactly, music in folders sorted by artist, why people need a program with a library to manage a few thousand songs I don't know.

Just a bit of a detour, but does Winamp (non lite) use a lot of CPU time? My PC averages about 60% when I play music with it (AMD 64 3000 @ 2.2GHz.)

Edit: A restart fixed the problem.

I purely wanted to use itunes to put the music onto my ipod. However, since reading this and other threads I'm gonna go back to using winamp.

Does winamp show the artwork like itunes? If so, I take it I'll need a plugin to get the artwork.
