iTunes sync problem

Has anyone had any issues syncing an iPhone (3GS) with iTunes 10.5? Following a reinstall, I can't get it to sync - it just beachballs when I plug it in. I can access the phone through iPhoto, so I know it's not the connection, and I can sync my iPad. Same on another machine too (10.5).*

Tried reinstalling iTunes, and the library isn't the issue as I've tried it on a library-less machine.

Really need to back up before OS5 as I haven't done one in a while .

Any advice?

I myself have an issue with itunes 10.5, it wont back up my phone (gets stuck at 10%) and have been getting 'can not connect to iphone' or 'unable to save backup to computer' errors.

Ive managed to get rid of those 2 errors by holding down top and home buttons untill hard reset and the other by deleting my previous back up from a few days ago.

Ive read ppl saying that by taking all your pictures off the phone it will enable you to back your phone up and others have actually had to factory reset the phone to get any success

I just left it plugged in whilst I did other things, took over 2hrs to even begin to sync - just beach-balled - but it got there at last.
