I was just reading some rumors about apple thinking about allowing people to subscribe to a unlimited download service. There are rumors saying it will be about $200 a year which sounds cheap really if you think about it. Too cheap!

Who would actually buy an account if all were true? your thoughts on the subject as well?

Subscription services can't be drm free.

You're renting the music.

Otherwise you could just signup for the month and download 1,000,000 songs and then quit.

Depends what the quality is like. If it was Apple Lossless and let you burn CDs then it would probably be worth that sort of money. Otherwise it's a bit of a waste.

This is why I rip my own CDs.

Giving out 128kbps and 256kbps music in a lossy format has pretty much stopped me from buying anything on iTunes.

iTunes 8 is meant to suggest songs based on your music library, I'm more excited about that than a tinny-subscription service where you can only download the tracks once.
