Hiya Everybody

Just a quick question regarding ITunes. I believe Itunes converts your music into their own format. Just wondering, will it convert your original songs or will it make copys and convert.

For example

I have a song a "My Music" on windows that is WMV file. If I use Itunes will it convert that and I will loose my WMV file or will Itunes have its on folder and make copy's?

Update: What about putting music onto you Ipod? Does'nt it have to Convert then? as I dont think they can play MP3's.

Thanks

P.S Hope you understand, I cant explain anything these days :p

For tunes you already have on your system, eg mp3's, it'll just play them when you point it at the folder/file, it doesn't need to convert the files at all.

For newly imported tunes from cd into itunes, you can specify the file format to import them under, so can avoid the 'only play with itunes' problem.

For tunes purchased from itunes music store, these always com in under a protected format that only works under itunes. There's ways around this, I've been told simply burning them to cd & re-importing them works fine, but I haven't tried it tbh as I use itunes exclusively.

Thanks, that pretty much answers it all. I Think I'm going to ask Santa for an Ipod now ;)

Every last one of my songs is in mp3 format. So, yes, it does play mp3's. ;)

Yeah Itunes dfaults to import in its own format, so if someone you know hasn't noticed the option to change it, then that'll be why :) First thing to do, have a look-see at the preferences/options & set it to import new stuff correctly!

And just bought a 4gig nano the other day, very happy with it. It's a sexy bit of kit :)
