I have been having a quick look at iTunes in a VPC due to myself looking to get an iPhone 3GS shortly.

I ahve some mp3's which I got into iTunes but got an error message saying it could not look them up online to get all the correct tags. I ahve to go out now but when I get back I'll find out the error message and post it here but if anyone knows of any reasons it could not look them up. Was something about having to be reimported or something.

Thanks

Regards,
Neil

It might have been that you didn't rip the MP3's properly originally. You can use a MP3 editor to amend the tags for iTunes (or you could use the one in iTunes but I find it rather tedious).

Heres a picture of the message I get. The files were imported by highlighting them in windows explorer and dragging them into the itunes window where they appeared.

AFAIK you need to let itunes import these properly by opening itunes, clicking File>Add folder to library

But as above, it could just be that the original tags are poorly done.

use a better program. a tagger should take a selection of songs and look up data based on the number of songs/track length to determine the album. if itunes can't even do that, what's the point?

I'm going to assume you aren't qualified to comment as you don't use iTunes, because if you did you would know it actually does identification pretty well.

I'm going to suggest the tracks the OP is trying to work with are in a mess already.

i'm qualified to comment because i can read. look at the screenshot again. it will only lookup tags if you import from cd. it will not look up data for mp3s that you've ripped yourself.

i tested this myself with one album, in the right order and i get the same error as the OP because i didn't use itunes to rip it....

I would just create an iso file with them in and mount it using virtual clone drive and use itunes to rip them from that, saves disks!

oh dear. :(

how is an iso full of mp3s any different to having a hard drive full of mp3s? it would have to an audio cd.

i'm not sure if you can create virtual audio cds???? and even if you could, it's a still a monumental waste of time and effort. not to mention the loss of sound quality by going mp3 to cd and then back to mp3 again. it's ******* insane.

seriously mate, you need to lose this mindset. itunes doesn't have to be used to do everything. it quite obviously fails at this simple task so use something else FFS. :D

Jees, I don;t particularly wish to use iTunes but due to myself wishing to purchase an iPhone in the very near future. I have to use iTunes. And yes, I ahve tried other apps for this.

i didn't say you had to ditch it altogether.

you can still use itunes for music playback/iphone management/the store/whatever. it's just not fit for this purpose. :)

have you tried musicbrainz?

read this as it's not obvious how to use it at first...
