Hi, I've noticed a lot of itx boards have a cmos battery connected to the board via a wire. Does this make replacing the battery more difficult?

The CR2032W is the most common type of CR2032, nothing special about it. Peeling off the plastic is gonna be the worst part about replacing a battery.

Nope - CR2032 is a standard coin cell that is so common you can buy it in most Super markets etc. The CR2032W has the flylead soldered to the battery and then encased in heatshrink plastic. It is not simply a case of removing the plastic and replacing.

CR2032-W
The “W” in CR2032W refers to the battery’s compliance with the international IEC 60086-3 watch battery standard. This standard defines a way of naming the battery, the battery’s size requirements, and its battery chemistry.

The above quoted site is listing a CR2032-W rather than a CR2032W (Note the dash), so not really relevant.
