Hey everyone
I've got this home server setup:
http://www.msi.com/product/mb/B75IA-E33.html
intel G860, 8GB ram, seasonic G360 all in the beautiful Bitfenix Prodigy
works like a charm with ubuntu server, serving mainly as home file server now (NAS).
I'm thinking about buying new HDDs (currently only 2+1TB) so probably 2-3 more 2TB drives. I would like them in RAID 5 setup...
And there is the problem with the board - doesnt support raid. Only expansion slot is PCIe x16 - so there is a possiblity to add Raid card there - but its not an ideal solution for me because I would like to add additional graphics card there so the PC is usable for lanparties...
I have found this as a possible solution: http://sybausa.com/productInfo.php?iid=1099 , looks like some people have problems but generally its usable peace of hardware http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816124043
It uses same chip as http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816241004
- question is the performance - if its an usable option for me to be used as NAS in raid 5 mode
- is it true that new intel boards doesnt support Port multiplying?
- are Seagate Barracuda Green 2 TB (5900rpm) good for NAS (cause I already own one)
Is there similar product out there which could help me without populating pcie slot? using sata 6gbps by any chance?
The cheaper the better, I dont expect high performance boost from raid - its more about redundancy... Files will be accesed thorugh 1gbps wired network.
If port multiplying isnt really a way to go please advise on some pcie controller under 100$ or so
Thanks for any kind of help
