Hi all, my wifes aging 6600K i5 is really not having a good time with 2042, massive lag spikes, and the 1070 its paired with is only hitting 60% usage, so looks like a CPU bottleneck?

Any advice on the most cost effective way forward so make the game playable?

Its all housed in a Silverstone Raven ITX case, so rather tight and only a stock intel cooler, which does the job ok without any overclocking, so something along similar lines would be good.

Just wondering if a 7700K might be ok? Its the best CPU supported by the Asus H110i Plus motherboard.
you really want atleast a 6 core for gaming these days as going from a 6600K to a 7700k is just a short term bandaid and will be struggling again the moment you upgrade the GPU.

The 7700k still costs quite a lot 2nd hand considering you can get a modern quad core 4/8 like the 10105F for around £70.

Every quad core is literal DOA for performance in modern gaming.
For perspective that's half the cores in PS5 and XSX!
