Well it finally happened to me. Feel free to tell me I'm a plonker, I deserve it!

After 2 1/2 years of having my Sat Nav cradle on display on my windscreen my car has finally been targetted by the scum. Annoyingly my Sat Nav was in the glovebox (I rarely leave it in there). Bums.

Anyway this is I guess one of those "be careful, keep your stuff hidden threads" but I feel its worthwhile banging this old drum again because of the balls these people now have.

The score- I pulled up in a 24 hr tesco just after 10:00pm, parked infront of the store, just the far side of the trolley bay (to avoid door bangers) Store was far from busy but there was a steady trickle of people in and out. Went in got milk, ham and bread. Self service checkout, done. Less than 5 minutes.

Came out to a busted passenger window and a car full of glass. Glovebox was open and I was sans Sat Nav (inc cradle which was on windscreen) and my gf's MP3 player was gone too.

Plus side- my head unit was still there (front was left on) and my work lappy was still in the boot.

Ho hum. Be careful people.

Damn, sorry to hear about that. Stupid ****** pikies. But you know they say take the cradle off whenever u leave the car and they've even said that you should rub of the mark the sucker thing leaves as apparently thieves see that too and think "$$$".

You'll probably see it up on ebay in a couple of days.
Yeah thats what the old bill said. TBH I knew what I should do but well, you know, lazyness :o

Maybe, I'd be tempted to ask If I could pick it up and pay in cash... then send someone a slight bit tougher than myself... with a 9 iron :p

Thanks for the sympathy but I really don't deserve it tbh.

Its actually a PDA with built in Sat Nav so not only is home programmed but if they can rub two brain cells together they could get my name address and phone number. Although that might still be set to my parents address. Not worried though tbh, as has been said it makes it doesnt make it any easier to rob me and I'm much more up on home security.

Just got the window done. Probably paid ott but really just wanted it sorted today and this place could fit me in there and then. £58 :(

Total out of pocket:

Sat Nav PDA - £169 (paid) probably spend up to about £120 on a replacement eventually.
GF's MP3 - £30 won't bother replacing that, she can have mine as I never use it
Window & fitting - £58

Could have been much worse tbh. Well £400 worse if they had got in the boot :o

Whats funny though is that our company is doing a battling robots event (robot wars scaled down slightly for kids) and I had one on the back seat. After eyeing it up several times the rozzer said "I'm sorry but I've got to ask, what is that? :p

Sorry to hear that :(

I've got a fixed cradle for my iPod and I never leave the player in the car- full stop. But I'm always wondering when some feckless swine's gonna come along, spot the cradle and assume it's in the car somewhere and put one of my windows through
The plod said that they would put money on the fact that it was the cradle that caused them to break in. Enough people (like me on this occasion) leave them in for it to be worth a punt.

Maybe this will stop my boss leaving her TomTom in her car on full display

Did you ask for CCTV at all. It was probably someone parked next to you ?
Theres no CCTV outside of the store :(

What we assume happened was someone driving around the carpark looking for cradles, spotted mine, pulled up and did a quick smash and grab.

sorry to here that, it really does suck and the police dont even take finger prints
The two officers that came out were pretty good, they made note of a couple of things in the glovebox that had a shiny surface and made that known to CSI. They asked me if I would be available to take the car to them and I said that I would.

Today CSI called and said "errr... yeah.... um.... was it parked outside" thought the Tesco carpark bit that he had just mentioned when he first spoke to me gave that away. "well it was raining so.... er.... theres probably no point"

Its not like it is on the telly thats for sure ;)
