Inspired by the wallpaper thread I decided to change my Entourage icon to the postage stamp one.

So I downloaded the .icns pack and unarchived it. I then did the usual copy/paste thing on Entourage but it now looks like this...

No problem, google is my friend and it pointed me towards this guide.

So I did as it says, I went to the resources of Entourage and replaced the Entourage.icns file with the UK_Mail(blue).icns file I downloaded after renaming it to Entourage.icns but I still have the wrong icon as shown above.

Anyone got any ideas as to how I can unscrew this please?

right click on the Entourage, -> Get Info, then in the top left hand corner, select the icon, and then Ctrl+X to cut the icon. it should hopefully revert back to the orignal icon.

If you need to change an icon, theres a guide in the sticky FAQ (biascially open GetInfo windwos for the app, and for the icon. Then copy and paste the littel icons in top left of the GetInfo windows.)
if you have a picture that you want to turn into an icon, download Pic2Icon

Yep - that's right. Matter of fact, you don't even need to press Ctrl + X. Just pressing the delete will work fine. :)

I did go through the getinfo and pasting a proper icon in, that's what screwed it in the first place, which was odd because I've done it many times before.

However, doing as you two suggested did the trick and removed the screwed icon and replaced it with the default icon for the app - And as I'd replaced the default icon for Entourage as described above it meant that it changed to the one I wanted in the first place :), so the result is exactly as wanted, thanks guys :)

Just to add my two pence.

If you change the icon using the .icns method, and the icon changes ONLY when you run the application. For example, you change Mail.app and it remains as the default icon until you open it, then it can be fixed by removing the icon from the dock and re-adding it.

I'm assuming it's a cache-thing, but it's tripped me up in the past. Usually a restart is recommended when mucking about with system icons
