hi all if you remember me i was doing my install saturday well it took bit longer than i thought but being new to building my own pc it was expected.

so here we are everything was packed nice and tight in box checked list done and everything there.

so next was to get started after a coffee or two and a quick read of the maunals ect here's the case antec 300

so next we got the mobo to put in first here we are asus p5q pro

once i sorted out that and added her into the case i started on the cpu added the artic thermal paste pretty straight forward that bit, then straight into her new home, added the artic cooler pro 7 in and here we are

next was the chunky ram called the corsair dominator 4gb of ram with airflow fan(whether this works or just a gimmic i dont know)looks nice feels solid andeasy to clip in mobo here we are

the fan just clips on top fairly tight and snug fit have a look yourself!!

^^^^^^^just fits in next to the artic fan^^^^^

not gonna bother boring you with pitures of hdd, cdrom, dvd units as we all know what they look like lol.so here's the fishished pc.

so overall how did i feel doing my very first pc blooming wonderfull:D scary at times and when you come to boot her up and see the screen say no boot device ect ya know we are there.the psu gave me some headaches mainly cables what goes where but thanks to the guys here i sorted it,tryed to tidy cables up a bit but i anit gonna see inside anyway but it looks good.so all thay leaves me to learn and do is the overclocking any links plz would be great.
i hope you enjoyed my little blog and please you read this far so you might as well leave feedback!!:D

there is a beginners guide to overclocking in the overclocking forum :P

Good job mate, if it worked on first boot you did better than i did on my first build....stupid 4pin connectors.

As far as cable tidying goes, as long as your airflow is ok, which will be demonstrated by temps, then it doesnt matter if you wont see them. Also if you do want to do it, you have to do it from the start before you put the mobo down so you can route under it etc. Im doing this on my new build but all my others I just hid them in a hdd/cd bay and cable tied them there.

How does the 4850 fit in the top slot with the RAM cooler on? Is it in the way or not? Just asking as normally the mobos say to use the top slot first. Although I have read nothing about your board.

Ah good point ch3m1c4L regards the GPU, not sure if the second slot runs @ 8x all the time or if the speed only drops when in crossfire?

I have the Dominator fan on my setup and there is hair width between that and my gpu.

Download gpu-z this will give information wether your running x8 or x 16, and stick the proper PCI-E cable in :p:)

Feels good doesn't it? Especially if you suffer the indignity of being a grade A ****witt like my not so good self (disclaimer: not calling you a ****witt!)

I done mine last week and forgot to plug the PSU into that AUX thingie on the mainboard. Had to take the sodding heatsink back out and reapply the thermal paste after a good hour of head scratching

I also spent half the night trying to pull the hard drive cage through the Antec 900 before realising it slots outwards :(

Btw, you have the same mainboard, case, graphic card and PSU as me. Bosom buddies!

nice build log mate and congrats on your first build.

As others have said you did a lot better than some on their first effor, myself included.

I managed to pop my Pentium 4 within about 1sec on my first build (had a sticker on the back of it doh!)

thanks for replies so far i have moved card up to the correct slot here's the results from gpu-z

changed cable to pci-e one

so whats next then any advice do i need to run it in for a day?
should i do a test or something see what it will give me prior to overclocking it any advice or ideas would be great even a step by step guide to it as i am new to all this and could do with a little help cheers

I take my hat off to you, that looks terribly complicated. My days of PC building ended a couple of years ago - I used to get too stressed in case I broke something expensive. I have moved on to off-the-shelf laptops! :D
