I am thinking about taking my 17" MBP back cos it kinda sucks... was thinking 24" 2.4 and a cheap macbook :) costs just about the same as the 17" MBP
o yeah thats with epic win discount :)

its just i feel the quality of it is too sib standard for an £1800 laptop, seriously not worth it. Screen looks like the used some cheap pannels instead of good ones.. i mean why would you do that on a £1800 notebook ???

i have heard some dodgy things about screens on the 24" any one got one ?

Or your trust, Daniel.... ;)

*Snigger*

Back on topic, I checked my status and its due to arrive Monday/Tuesday.

If anyone wants a particular picture of it (bread is compulsory, I know :p) then feel free to ask. I'll wantvto take loads of pictures anyway.

Also, I have to figure a way of fitting it on my side unit / buy a small desk to accompdate it. I only realized how big it was yesterday when I visited my Apple reseller in Cardiff, yesterday

I'd particularly like a picture of it squeezed between a page three girl's breasts...

I'll ask the Mrs, can't see it happening though.

Saying that, I've got pictures of her from her modelling days that'd get me banned ;)

*shakes head*

Tut tut tut.

Gonna be spending a similar amount of money on a PC soon. Then again it is for gaming - but doesn't the graphics cards in those iMacs not make you think at least thrice?

I suppose I'm still coming at it from a gaming angle but still. :D

Three things swayed me (If I'm honest).

1) I would have wanted a Shuttle as I haven't got a big place to put the computer, but it wasn't available to order as and when I checked.

2) It would be the only computer in the house if I had gone with a "PC", and even though I'd love a gaming rig (as I always had in the past) I'm not sure I could warrant giving up my only Mac as I use a lot of Mac-only software for work.

3) Games won't even be a consideration with the iMac, and like I said; I've already got COD4 and all the other games.. it would have been a hell of a lot of cash for a few games on the PC.

Trust me, if I hadn't bought the mrs' an engagment ring then I woulda got both :p:D

I am interested in how you find this regarding performance as that is the exact spec machine I am getting v soon

I believe PAC2007 has the same spec.. I'm betting he'll chime in with his benchmarks if you ask nicely mate.

Damn you Slogan, having second thoughts already..

Yeah but Shuttle's are garbage. At least with the iMac if you feel you've made a mistake after a couple of months you can sell it for what you paid (because you got the discount).

I'd be all over the iMacs if they supported the VESA mounts like the first lot of G5s.
Really? I've had many many Shuttles in the past (in fact, the SFF forums were my previous haunt) and I've found them good for what I needed (no overclocking).

Ahhh, damn you to hell Slogan, tempting me..

Ah, I'm torn.. I know I'll be kicking myself if I cancel the iMac but the gaming rig I could get is so so tempting to me..

I told you, you would cancel it or return it...

Cheers Josh, I'm actually proposing tomorrow so it's all getting the better of me today.

As for cancelling the iMac, nahh, I won't.

I thought about getting the PC long and hard but I don't know if I can be arsed to configure XP and generally faff around with Windows at the current time.

Come June/July I could flog the iMac for a tidy some and hopefully save money towards a Mac Pro by then, and, fingers crossed Apple will offer a decent gfx solution for a palletable price.

...otherwise if I get the condensation issue then I'll get a refund and go PC.

Hey all,

The iMac has arrived!! 4 days ahead of my estimate.. quite pleased.

Pity I didn't receive any "tracking" emails, so it really was a suprise.

This thing is huuuuuuuge, have to post pictures after i'm configured up :D

Taken these quickly this morning before work.. hence the n00bness.

I don't know.. I just prefer the shape of the logitech mice, and they've always been reliable for me.

I had mighty mice die on me in the past.

My thoughts so far;

•Nice display, much nicer than my MBP (out of the box), and BIG
•Keyboard is very slick, no complaints
•No condensation/freezing issues, very stable
•FAST! My god, this thing flies with 4GB of RAM
•Resolution is great, multitasking with the extra real estate is sweet

-Didnt ship with 10.5.1 preinstalled, an inconveinience more than anything
-Might mouse isn't so ergonomical, could be better
-Ports at the back seem laid out backwards (FireWire furthest from centre-hole)

Looking good.

Just out of interest, did you sell your MBP?

Yeah, got a good price for it too.

@Josh, the curve isn't bad.. I'd like to use the manual sensitivity button on the mouse but OS X forgets the setting when I reboot, so I've kept it on 2/3 and adjusted the sensitivity in system preferences.

One thing I will say.. I bought a desk to use the iMac on and ended up not using it, what a plonker! Just seeing if I can send it back.

Must say the new iMacs look much nicer than the old G5 one I had. Just seem more 'mature' to me. Half fancying one again tbh, just not sure it'd be quick enough. Got rid of the G5 cos it was too sluggish.

Trust me, this machine is faaaar from sluggish :D:D
