I've done it!

I've lost 164.2lb (11st 10.2lb).
I weigh 163.8lb (11st 9.8lb).

Therefore I'm almost exactly half the man I used to be, I've lost 50% of my body weight!

So to celebrate, for the first time ever on here, here I am unmasked.

Thanks everyone - I'm a bit slow in replying because I've been away all weekend. One of the things I did was to climb a 10m wall. I've never done anything like this before.

why do you always use a different font, just curious. also, how do you actually do it
Because I like it.

How did you get rid of the baggy skin?
I didn't, it's just well hidden but I have a plan for that.

Top job and well done. Now don't lose any more or it will start to look unhealthy.
I'm done, I'm not going any further.

Also you have to do a cheesy weight watchers type pic wearing those old shorts. :D
I threw away all my old clothes so that sort of picture isn't going to happen.

That's not the same man. Surely?!
:D

What size feet you got Feek ?
Depending on shoe manufacturer, I vary between a 10 and an 11. The brown shoes I'm wearing in the first post are a 10, the trainers in the picture in this post are a 10.5

Well done Feek, what are you doing with all your lovely hats?
Hats? I do have quite a few hats and all bar one, they still fit. My trilby is just too large now so I might sell it and get another one. Maybe.

So how did you do it??
See post 1.

Impressive! I suppose you are not big boned after all. :D
Never claimed I was ;)

Here's a question I'd love an answer to - how do you feel with the weight gone? Do you feel happier, have more energy etc?
Naturally I feel better. I have more stamina, better endurance. I can walk for hours at a very fast rate and not be totally wiped out at the end - At the other end of the scale, I can walk up stairs without being totally out of breath when I'm done.

Few questions for me old mate. :D

1. How much has the new wardrobe cost ya ?
2. Has the Missus got all possessive with you now ?
3. You're getting plenty right ?
4. Does your old man still look the same as it did last time you saw it ? :p
1. Too much - It doesn't help that I've restocked it twice now and need to do some items again.
2. Yup :)
3. Yup :D
4. Bigger ;)

That's extremely impressive but how on earth do you get to 22st in the first place. Surely somewhere along the way you think you are a bit overweight or someone says something which causes you to reevaluate how you look?
I've said this in other places and it sounds stupid but it's true. You don't realise how much you weigh until you get on the scales. I hadn't been near a set of scales for years and although I'd thought that I needed to lose some weight, I had no idea how much. Then when I did, I started the "I really need to lose some weight" thing but hey, it's easy to put things off until tomorrow, isn't it?

I was inspired by someone I knew who had dropped about five stone doing exactly what I've described in the opening post of this thread. I figured I'd give it a try, found it easy and just kept on with it.

I've always been a bit chunky but it took me twenty two years of married life to put on the weight I did. I put that down to contentment, easy living and a sedentary job behind a desk. Half a stone a year doesn't sound much but do that for over twenty years and one can end up a bit porky.

I've had a recent blood test and everything looks very good. My cholesterol is well in the healthy range, my HDL, LDL and triglycerides are spot on and my glucose level shows that I'm in no risk of developing diabetes. A well known doctor reckons I've added ten years to my life by doing what I've done.

So how do you plan to do this..

Less walking or more Big Macs & Krispy Kremes to top up the Calorie count?

Serious question.
I enjoy the walking and it's good for me so I'll try and slowly increase my calorie count until it all levels out. I don't really want to reduce the daily exercise.

Not sure I'll load up on Big Macs though, I've only ever had one of those in my life.

That's once I've lost the weight I've put back on this weekend ;)

I'm curious SleekFeek, how tall are you?.
5ft 10½ or 179cm if that's your preferred method.

Do you find people you've known for years don't recognise you?
Yes, exactly that. I saw someone a couple of months ago who I've known for about twenty years and he simply looked through me and didn't recognise me until I said "Oi Bill, it's me". Last week I visited one of our remote work branches and they didn't know who I was until I started talking as well. I was last there in January.

Bumping my own thread.

I'm now on maintenance but have dropped a couple of pound more in preparation for a long weekend away at the end of the month where I'll be tucking into four meals/day fully inclusive :)

I've got a new shirt and a new pair of 30" waist 501s. Who'd have ever thought I'd get into 30" waist jeans?!#

It's buried somewhere in the thread.

Simple really, walk five miles per day and eat less than 2,000 calories. No fad, nothing complicated, just calories in vs calories out.

Finding the time to walk five miles per day is easy. Got a job? Get up half an hour early, make your normal commute (it'll be easier, less people about) and then go for a walk. Do you take a lunch break? Go for a walk. It's really not difficult. In the summer months, when you're at home in the evening, pop out for a stroll for twenty minutes.

It's simply a case of getting into the habit. Once you settle in, it's very easy and I now find that if I don't go for a walk, I get restless. I've already done over seven miles today

It's like anything else, if you want to do it, you'll find time. If you don't, you'll find excuses :)

As for speed - I walk quickly, very quickly in fact. Nobody _ever_ overtakes me who's walking and I always catch people up going in the same direction. I walk at almost exactly 4.5mph and I can maintain that for hours. I've tried walking on a treadmill and managed just a bit under 5.5mph but I couldn't maintain it and I was absolutely exhausted after half an hour. 6mph would be a slow jog, not a walk.

Do you wear any 'walking/jogging' clothes/trainers? Or just go in whatever you are wearing?
During the week, I walk in my work clothes. I'll sometimes swap my decent shoes for a pair of running shoes but more often than not I don't bother. My brogues are comfortable and well broken in so I have no problem walking miles and miles in them. They've been re-heeled at least twice!

At weekends, either jeans, trackies or a pair of shorts with my running shoes.

Do you find that since you lost all the weight you are more likely to dress more smartly?

Example, the photo in the first post you are wearing shorts and t-shirt, but after shedding the weight you are wearing smart trousers, top, and shoes.
Well it's a bit misleading really. I've always tried to dress smartly but finding smart clothes in porker size isn't that easy.

However, the first picture was taken during a week's holiday to the seaside so I was dressed accordingly. The second one was taken the day before I was going on holiday to the seaside and I'd just bought some new clobber so again, I was dressed accordingly. If I found some pictures taken while I was away that second time, they'd be wearing a ratty t-shirt and a pair of shorts of exactly the same style, just smaller.

Good luck Vidar, I hope you manage to succeed. If you're tracking food through MyFitnessPal, post your username in here and I'll add you.

Markopolo - Good stuff, I'm happy to have inspired you :)

Vidar, I do have some loose skin but remember that I'm older so my skin has lost a lot of the elasticity it would have had when I'm younger. I am investigating surgery because I'd like to get rid of what's left but it won't happen for a couple of years as it's very expensive.

I've got a wedding to go to in July so I bought a new suit at the weekend, it does make me look really skinny!

Just a little bump - No more milestones or anything like that to report, it's just that Timehop reminded me that the original picture was taken two years ago today so I just had to do a new picture as a comparison.

I'm quite happily maintaining the weight loss, life is good. And despite what philstanbridge says just ^^^^^, I'm happier now :D

Well done but I need to ask. In the left PIC u had more colour and looked younger compared to the right, in the right PIC it seems like its skipped about 5-10 years. Unless its just the way the photos came out as apart from the weight they look different in other ways like age and the dates on the pics show it to have just been 1 year between them so hence why I'm confused.
The lighting is different, that accounts for the different skin colouration, it's as simple as that.
Interestingly, I tend to think I look younger before. The fat filled up my skin and any age wrinkles were barely visible. Having said that, I think I look better now. I'm not sure what you mean about the dates though, the original one was in July 2013 and the one I posted yesterday was taken yesterday. I lost around ten stone in the first year and then it took me six months or so to drop the rest of the weight. I've been maintaining now for about six months.

Great job tho but I do wonder how u address the skin sag issue as that's my one worry if I lost my weight like u did. I'd not be any more confident showing my body than before for example swimming I'd be too self conscious.
I do have some loose skin, enough for me to want to do something about it but not so much that it's a matter of urgency.

Dunno if asked yet but did u do weights or anything to build your mussels during weight loss.
Nope, nothing. I've not been to a gym at all apart from when I've been on holiday a couple of times and had some treadmill sessions.

Oh and might be a delicate question but wondered, did u have a man boob issue with the weight and if so did it fix itself when you got thinner?
Never had an issue with moobs.
