I've fallen behind on RAM knowledge

Hi guys,

Being stuck on PC3200 for the last 4 years, I have lost concept of what RAM I may need for my system.

I currently have PC2-5300 in my sights for the following system:

1) Non gaming
2) Responsive system with lots of things going on at once, maybe even a virtual machine
3) 4GB
5) Q6600

Am I going to miss PC2-6400 if I went for PC2-5300 to save on green?

Go for something like the Crucial balastix 2GB 5300 CL3 kit - Circa £55.
They clock like crazy, just google for results.

I'm in the same boat as the OP. Glad this thread came along.

If I wanted to OC the Q6600 from 2.4 to 3.0 is this easily possible using 5300 memory? IN what circumstances is 8500 needed?
