I've got this problem narrowed down right?

Son's PC stopped giving a video out
fans dont come on the gpu, even after sitting for what should be long enough for some load to kick them on, RGB doesn't light up on the gpu either, AMD 5700 xt nitro +
all the othe fans in the pc come on, and the rgb lights on the ram come on
things I've tried,:
1,changing the ram to known working ram
2.can't try the gpu in my PC because I don't have the correct power connectors
3. tried another gpu in the system,an old amd 290 this is even older than the 5700, and lol, it was too old to be recognised by the bios, untill forced into CSM mode by wiping the cmos, and letting it do its thing
4. that number 3 GPU gives video out signal
5. tried different leads, and a different monitor
this leads me to believe that the PSU, the motherboard and thecpu/ram are all good, and it is the original GPU at fault, this is fine with me, it has lasted a long time, and has always been heavily overclocked, the only annoying thing is that it was worth £100 second hand, and obviously I'm going to have to fork out for another gpu, but this will be okay, because january sales
do you think that I'm correct about the gpu being faulty?
we do have a friendly computer shop who can test the gpu for us when they reopen for free, but if it works, I'm kinda stuffed because that must mean that it is either the board, or the psu
we are meant to be upgrading his gpu anyway, and we missed black friday by accident , he lost his job, so lack of funds
I can try to make sure that I get the replacement from amazon, so if the system still doesn't work then i'll have no problems getting a refund, I won't take up Ocuk CS time esp at this time of year trying to do the same thing, even though I bet they would do it if I asked nicely, the CS at OCUK is pretty damn fantastic, I've found

Does look like the 5700 is faulty the 290 confirms that but what gpu do you have in your pc and can't you test that in his pc to be absolutely certain?

What's the rest of his spec .
I only have a 12VHPWR connector coming out of my Psu right now, and I don't really want him handling my 4090, plus I've mislaid the modular connectors for my PSU to try his out, but we will get the gpu checked at the computer shop when they open again, just to see if we can sell it if it works
his specs are:
5800x3d (never going to find one of these again, and even if I did, I couldn't afford it right now same with trying a 5700x3d can't afford it. :-(

in an MSI B450M-A PRO MAX motherboard

PSU is a Seasonic G12-GC-850 850W with fixed leads, not modular, went overboard here to futureproof getting a much better gpu in the future, just a shame it only has x2 8pin gpu power connectors, nor does it have a 12VHPW either, but it is not the newest version of this PSU, but it was a good price so pretty happy with that, we breadborded the system before he built it

with
64GB

3600mhz Patriot Viper Steel RGB DDR4 ,this is running at 4000mhz beecause it can, even though I've told him that ram speed don't matter too much with a x3d cpu I've been encouraging him to learn how to overclock so getting his ram to 4000mhz was a crowning moment for him, same with overclocking the gpu, but I've known that gpu was a good overclocker so I had zero qualms about him overclocking that, it's so good that the power limit has never even needed to be touched, he hasn't touched the power limit either

all these parts are new out of the box except for the 5700 ofc

I really feel for him, because he built the system himself with my guidence, since I can't use my left hand any more., and he got a new desk and chair to go with his PC this year for xmas, not cheap!

PC was working fine before the no signal, so I'm pretty sure that everything, apart from the gpu is working

thanks for your reply Micky :-)

look here gives the level of performance the 5700xt is compared to other GPUs
aye, I've seen this before, it makes it even more depressing seeing how well the 5700 hold sup against the rest, and this was the nitro , so even faster
it wer're thinking about the 12GB 4060 because the price is very attractive right now or a 4070 if somewhere can get them to ~£250/300 in the sales, maybe even the

Asus TUF GAMING RX7600 XTfor the fancy lights, and the amd mature drivers

what do you think?

Its great he's acquiring the skills and knowledge to be able to build , maintain and Overclock to get more performance.
yeah. I'm proud of him, he totally gets the jist of it all now, he had a penny drop moment when he realised that almost everything can be overclocked, even a monitor, but not if you are locked out of overclocking, like on his new cpu ,that took some explaining why some cpus are locked downI had him pull his old cpu from his old PC just for that extra experience with pinned cpus, ready for inserting the 5800x3d, he'll probably never have to deal with a cpu with pins again now, unless he takes it out to sell later on when thinking of upgrading to am5, or something

UPDATE:

Found a very well priced

ASUS GeForce RTX 4060 DUAL EVO 8G OC in the sales

It's only 8GB, and not 12GB but there was no option for that in the available sales on offer :-(

this arrived today, and my son wanged it into his system:

it all works,

yes!

he is really into marvel rivals atm, getting 150fps on ultra @4k@ 144 hz refresh on my system with a better mouse, and keyboard, and better headset, after I have gone to bed, during the day he has been limping along with the amd 290 playing league

Now he is looking into getting a 1440p screen because going down to 1080p from 4k is quite the shock for him :-)

I've had a good look at how much video ram rivals is using @ 1440p, using this very card and it is not hitting even 8GB VRAM on the videos that I've seen thus far on medium settings, and it gets, like 90fps too, so I've got no worries about it being only an 8GB card right the now; yippee!

Thanks to everyone who helped me double check a few things that could have been wrong instead

special thanks to Micky for the gpu comparison gpu chart, that was very helpful indeed,
I've lost my son to his room and his new gpu now, but tomorrow I'll come back to update what kind of fps he is getting at 1080p with it

this gpu is performing great, it is doing Rivals at 140-150fps on high settings, and was an easy overclock for him using asus's own overclocking program

very happy for sub £350
now the saving for the nice oled 1440p screen
