I've had 102,000 views on my YouTube video, what now?

In a nutshell, in 2014 I uploaded a video to YouTube with basic instructions on how to create a drop-down list in Excel 2013. I made 1 more video after that before deciding it was too much effort.

2 years later I decided to go back to the channel and was surprised to see that I received over 100,000 views on one of my videos. This was two weeks ago.

The video is now receiving on average 7,000 to 8,000 views a month and I’m not even paying for it to be advertised. I decided to create a new video which I uploaded 9 days ago and I’ve barely got any views since. Even when linking the popular video to my latest one, it’s just not generating any interest.

After checking Google AdSense, it appears I have made some pocket money from the ad-revenue. At the moment, I can’t decide whether it is worth reinvesting that money back into my channel or use it for Christmas.

I’m sure there are more experienced people on here who receive way more views and know exactly what to do, but I’m having hard time deciding what to do.

Would it be a risk spending that money back into my channel and not making any difference or should I just blow the cash over the Christmas period?

Would appreciate the feedback

I have added the video for you to see below. I want to apologise beforehand of my horrible voice and words. Speaking isn’t my strongest points.

Personally, if this is not something you have a major interest in pursing, I'd take the money generated :).

You should be creating dynamic drop down lists using named ranges and tables, much easier to manage :)

i know that's not what you wanted feedback on but i dont know anything about the monetisation side of it :p

If you can think of any other simple videos to make then I would put a few more up. Might be worth it as you did ok from the first one. I wouldn't quit the day job :)

I'd have thought short videos teaching useful IT skills would be reasonably popular, especially if have caught on to a trendy 'how to' topic, or something that everyone forgets. I'd spend the coming weekend on an experiment, and leave a few more videos up, but would also take out the cash if it's just some pocket change. Depending on the amount, it may not be wise ploughing it back into the Google monster without a content strategy/desire to do more.

A few hundred in a couple of years?

I think that's just the way the YouTube game goes, especially recently with the changes maybe people are watching it all and en made meaning you're hitting the results for the search of drop down lists.

I'm playing around with my latest video at the moment to try and increase the ranking. It is slowly starting to move up when searching for basic terms.

I'm considering leaving the money until I know for sure what I want to do. Part of me wants to give it another try to see how it goes.

pointless spending the money anyway. just make videos and make sure when you search they are found.
you need a lot of views to make any real money and most achieve this by regular videos several a week.

YouTube has changed it algorithms recently and it's been causing havoc for some YT'ers. People been randomly unsubscribed all over the place. I would keep a close eye on your subscriber base to make sure it's not happening to you.

As for the money you made, buy your partner something nice, it is Xmas! ;)
