i think an RMA is out of the question, best get the wallet out...

As it turns out it is the Akasa PSUs fault (sourced from yourselves), not the XFX board at all.

I did hear rumors the 780 from them like welling the CPU to it....it was ages ago when I seen it on tomsheardware fourm

still i had a jneatec powersupply unit go puff, that was fun, we thought the mobo died too (abit)

Well, Akasa PSU replaced via RMA.
New Gigabyte motherboard in place and all is working as normal. Pretty surprised it didnt take any other components with it - guess the XFX board did a better job than you thought rjkoneill ;)

Whoa, I've seen PSU's take out mobo's before but never as spectacularly as that...

Good to hear all the other components are still working :)

I would say its still possible for that mosfet to have overheated, failed, shorted and taken out the PSU, but its one of those "you'll never know" scenarios.

Me, I would probably contact XFX (Yeah I know their RMA department are poor), and quote trading standards "fit for use", and get it replaced.
