Been receiving a number of calls to my mobile from people alleging that I've called them and they missed my call. Only I have access to my phone and I know 100% I have not called these people.

I am assuming that my mobile number has been spoofed by some kind of scammer, as the callers who ring me seem genuine and never ask for any bank details, or similar, they just state that they missed a call from me.

Due to the nature of my work I often get calls from people who haven't called me before (no, I'm not a male escort :p) so I can't just not answer numbers that I don't recognise.

Is it, as I suspect, someone having spoofed my number, or something else perhaps?

The only thing I can't make sense of is if someone rings me, and I miss the call, if they don't leave a message I'd not call them back. Why are these people ringing me, am I missing something?

Scammers must be spoofing numbers now because I've had a few where local area numbers come up but then they want to talk about my windows computer of tell me my Amazon account is going to be shut down... :p

I have been on the other end of this. About 2 years ago I had received a call that I missed and called the number back. The guy genuinely had no clue who I was or what I was on about

This has been happening to me too. I've had multiple people call me saying I called them when I haven't and they're totally baffled that I had no idea what they're talking about. My network said there's nothing they can except change my number and report it to action fraud in case something comes of it. Bloody annoying.

I had this for a few months, absolutely prolific. Kept getting people calling me telling me they'd missed a call from my number, when I can say with absolute 100% certainty that it wasn't me.

Clearly Rajesh James in India was using my number for scams Tech Support.

Him: "Good morning, I'm returning a missed call."
Me: "Oh my God, that is SO hot."
Him: "Uh-huh. So, as I said I think I missed a call from this num-"
Me: "Faster."
Him: "Excuse me? I missed a ca-"
Me: "I know that part. Talk faster. Faster."
Him: "Ok. *clears throat* If this isn't a good ti-"
Me: "FASTER."
Him: "Ifthisisn'tagoodtimemaybeIshouldcall-"
Me: "YES I"M ALMOST THERE"
Him: "backatatimeTHATISCONVENIENTFORBOTHOFUSHOWABOUTTOMORROWAT11AM?"
Me: "YES! OH YES!"
Him: "OK!"

My dad had this around October time last year up to the point where he was getting at least two call backs in a minute. His answer phone inbox had several hundreds of messages and it ended up when folk called him back from this 'missed call' he was getting a load of abuse from them. I checked the who called me website and it did appear that his number had been cloned but he was getting the grief from whichever 'energy company' had called using his number. He ended up having to call his provider and get his number changed. That was the easiest part of the process but it was the only way he got the calls to stop. To be fair he was daft enough to leave it a week before he contacted me about it despite the fact he'd went into his mobile providers shop and they were clueless on what had happened.

OP, is your number listed on who called me?

Just checked, nope.

My number has been looked up 0 times.
Interesting I never thought about checked if my number is listed on who called me and surprised it is listed with details said my number was undetermined with first detected 4 years ago and lookup 5 times.

What do you see replacing them?
Replace is a loaded word. I don't want random bellends to be able to make my phone ring.
Companies I ring put me 100th in the queue and cut me off if I bother to wait.
Proper calls like job interviews or family can be zoom or whatsapp etc instead.
Breakdown is via an app already.
999 idk.
