Mine’s the Mondeo by the way :p

Driving home, and this guy pulled out from the side street as I passed it, hitting my rear near-side, he then reversed back in as I pulled over, that’s why it doesn’t look like his nose is out.

Anyway, I stopped and asked if he was ok, the guy apologised and stated the sun had been in his eyes, we exchanged details and I’m just about to notify my insurer, but…. my question:

My car, well, let’s face it isn’t worth too much and I would imagine the repairs would be a new bumper, new alloy and tyre and panel work to the door (dent fix and maybe a spray), I’m also f/c, protected ncb (6 years I think) and the excess is £250.

Having had the misfortune to be involved in an accident last year, I know how much of a pain in the *** it was dealing with all the issues, I swore that I would use an accident management company if I were ever unlucky enough to crash again – so wondered what people’s opinions where?

By the way, I checked ASKMID and the car is showing as insured – result.

Thanks,
Scort.

Without knowing the mileage/spec of your mondy I dont know what it's worth but there's a good chance it's been written off....

Remember a £400 repair becomes an £800 repair when insurance is involved...

A single front wing replacement on my Mk2 Mondeo came in at a quote of over £1000, meaning my car will be written off. That is definitely a write-off, although I belive you can demand a 3rd party fix it rather than write it off..

Just spoken to the insurers and registered the claim, they told me that they can pass it on to a company called Albany Assistance who will organise the repairs, and will provide a replacement car; this is what I’m after, but being a total claim noob, have no idea if I should go for that or sort one myself?

The car has about 99k on the clock, it's an ST24 spec, and I'd be surprised if it’s worth a grand.

Whilst not exactly my pride and joy any more (the R1 took that title), I still love the looks of the car and wouldn’t be too chuffed if it were written off, unless I got a decent enough amount to replace it (said grand maybe) – so picking up on your point Skeeter; if they were to come back with a write off amount I wasn’t happy with, and repairs were more than the market value, I can still demand it to be fixed?

Cheers,
Scort.

Tbh i'd let them call it CAT D, then i'd get a good price for the car + damages your way and fix that myself, new rear door in the same colour can't be that much / hard to find, i'd just live with the alloy and bumper damage or find a cheap alloy on e-bay, tyre looks ok to me, hopefully it hasn't taken too much of a punt on the wheel, how does it feel to drive?

I guess it depends on what the write off amount is, if it get’s to that stage, I wouldn’t mind a change of car to be honest, as the ST needs the fuelling sorted out, which I was quoted £700 for :( It’s apparently getting 3.5 bar pressure, when it should be 2.5 – 2.9, and as a result my around town mpg is usually single figures (that’s driving carefully too!).

A mate of mine has just suggested going through Accident Exchange, as they were apparently fantastic to deal with and try to get you a like for like vehicle, which would be nice, rather than getting stuck with a 1.2 Corsa or something.

Don't forget to claim that your neck hurts and that the perp sexually assaulted you!

Hahahaha, I already have :D

Nah, I felt bad enough putting in a PI claim for the bike crash, but almost a year on an still problems, I'm glad I did.

700 to replace a fuel regulator?

It was a garage though, and the part is basically built into some other part that the LIM is bolted onto (if I recall correctly) - ha, should have let the mfix it, as I've probably spent that in extra fuel since then :D

Doesn't look like there's much actual damage. Get the sponge out, rub off all those black marks, and i don't think there will be too much damage. Maybe the pictures are misleading though?

The rear passenger door is dented, the body work on the wheel arch has a pretty sharp dent in, which has taken a chunk of pain out and I can see bare metal, the alloy just appears to be scuffed, as does the tyre - but are marks that wont come out (the black stuff will), the bumper just seems scuffed mainly.

My main worry is what potential damage could have happened behind the wheel – the axel, suspension and brake for example, also, has it affect the hand brake? These are all things that I am not qualified to say for certain, and as I will be taking a minor out tomorrow, don’t want to take any risks.

I can’t say whether it drove differently or not, it only happened a few hundred yards from my house, and I was probably still affected by the crash, so not a good judge on differences.

I may give the insurers a ring now and ask them to pass it onto the management company, providing they can get me a car for tomorrow morning, otherwise I will have a ring around to try an find one who will.

As above, bet you could get a door for next to nothing, also I saw an alloy with tyre go on ebay for around £20 the other week. The beaty of buying a mondeo!!

If its a write off you can't demand they fix it.. As above, cat D with you repairing it is a good solution.. If you are considering selling it on after though you maybe able to negotiate a cash in lieu settlement depending on your insurer... I think i can guess but who you insured with?

Or.... Spend the £700 modding it to use the 3.5bar of fuel efficiently ;)
