Hi there, I've redesigned my website, and hopefully it's a massive improvement to the old one bringing it up to the 21st Century. I've not been able to test it in IE7 but hopefully it should look alright. Have a massive mess about with it so that I can iron it out with the comments you give me, the following screenshots show the differences:

And then with a lot of jiggery and pokery I turned it into the following; although if you're using IE then you'll be welcomed with a different set of nav buttons for your privelige only :p

Please have a massive play, I know there a few dud links to sort out but I'd just like to know what you think; critisize the hell out of it if you will so then I can improve and work forwards. Any major problems?

What do you think?

looks good but im not too fond on the red boxes that come up when the buttons are highlighted.

edit - just had a look at some of your other work, am very impressed.

Being honest, the old site looks better. Still nice.

The pink box on the menu hover is horrible though.

I'll have a think about them, you'll probably be able to tell I've gone for the flickr pink that's popular at the moment, I might have overdone it. I'll try out some other colours and see which work well. :)

i think if you could get the area inside the circle to light up in that colour it would look a lot better than a big square around it. or maybe that colour on just the text to show its highlighted.

Definitely agree. I also like the top one :-) New one is very professional though. Nice job.

  1. I don't like the text in the main navigation circles.
  2. The a:hover pink for the main navigation looks terrible on the red header.
Other than that I think it looks good, I particulaly like the way you present the work in your 'Folio'.

Cracking site there. I like it a lot.

What did you use to create it?.
Thanks, just Notepad++ and Photoshop :)

edit: I've been through a few colours for the nav and I might just be using a darker grey hover, I'll update it in a day or two depending on other comments. :)

I them both mate, but as others had said if I had to choose between the 2 it would your original that got the thumbs up.

I think when designers make updates to there own site they tend to make changes when changes aren't need :p but we keep doing it no matter.

I was really looking forward to your new site I liked the old one's design, and to be honest, I know where your going and its not a bad site but I also prefer the old one and I detest the pink squares. Additionally I font like the font used on the menu buttons, I feel perhapse some sort of tabs there might work nicely (a wordpress feel perhapse?)

definitely prefer the old website for the navigation and fonts used, not into the handwriting standard fonts supplied with pc/osx, could always change it for a graphic with a better font but still ahve the link and alt="" to keep the search bots nice :p

So hypothetically some people would prefer www.upleft.co.uk/test/v2redo/ ? :)
That looks worse than either of them ;)

Few points, no particular order:
  • The logo you had on the old site was good, i'd keep that.
  • The nav buttons on the new don't work with the old header background.
  • The body background of the old is a bit too pink, i'd go for plain white instead.
  • New 3 column layout works pretty well with your content.

I'd try...change the header totally back to how it was, put some side borders on the content section, keep the new content layout. Maybe take the tag line out of the logo, make the logo of the old site the same graphic with a 'web design' in place of 'The design of..', or maybe just Upleft bigger to fit the graphic. Definitely don't lose the graphic though.

Hi there, thanks for the response, when you made that were the 'red buttons' back, in a sense...I've made a few changes, now I'm going to go hunt for the vector of the logo from way back :p
