ok so i want to upgrade and am thinking of going to ivy i5 3570k (from Q6600)

now looking at the motherboards im a bit confused by the socket on them. are all ivy bridge going to be 1155? whats confusing me the most is socket 2011...is this the same socket or different and can you use a 3570k in a 2011?

i know the IB chips can be used in current SB motherboards but whats going on with 2011?

Cheers

Ivybridge need a socket 1155 motherboard (P67/Z68 or Z77 to facilitate overclocking of a "K" chip)

Socket 2011 is for the high end Sandybridge-E chips (and Ivybridge-E when thats released) they are not compatible with each other.

Socket 2011 is for the Sandy Bridge-E (enthusiast) CPUs. Ivy bridge is Socket 1155 so you should get a z77 motherboard if you want a 3570k

awsome thanks for the quick replys and clearing that up for me :)

now my next question...which one? i have read that a few people are going to use the UD3H, is there any reason behind this? i will be overclocking but hopefuly only to about 4.2 or 4.3Ghz

i was looking at the Asrock Z77 Extreme4 Intel Z77 is there much difference in the 2?

cheers
