Hi guys, really hoping somebody can help me out here.

Just build the following system:
3770K
Asus Maximus IV Extreame-Z
GTX680

Cannot POST whatsoever :(
Upon power on, everything lights up, all fans spinning, LED's on motherboard are up. Then DRAM_LED on the mobo goes red, and LCD on the mobo shows error code 55, which corresponds to RAM not installed. Ir reboots itself couple of times, but then gets stuck at this error 55 :(

I tried:
- Reset CMOS
- Switch between BIOSes
- Check for bent pins
- Resitting CPU
- Loosening CPU cooler
- Plugging ONE stick of ram into each of 4 slots. Tried this on 5 different sticks of ram.

What I know for a fact:
- GPU def works
- Ram def works
- Mobo worked with 2600k

What I think might be a problem:
- I have no idea what BIOS version is on Asus Maximus IV Extreame-Z. With it being Z68 it might need a BIOS flash to support Ivy. Can this result in the above ram issue?
- Can CPU be faulty?
- Can I flash BIOS somehow without resolving to a different CPU?

I would very much appreciate you help :(

Im sure most Z68 boards need a updated BIOS to run Ivy. Check on the Asus website.

I think you can update the BIOS from a external USB input. Not too sure about this though, can't see why not though.

I would think this. I don't know about your motherboard, most boards need a CPU to update the bios which is annoying i know.

According to the website here it should be supported so would definitely think its a BIOS update required problem.

I bought the board from somebody who ran 2600k a while back. Since it was running fine, I am inclined to rule out the board.

This leaves me with only two possibilities:
- BIOS flash required
- CPU faulty.

Problem is I don't have access to Sandy to do a flash. Will try to confirm what bios version is on the board with the guy I bought the board from.

This issue relates to the bios needing an update. Do you have access to another cpu? if not then maybe you could head to a local computer repair shop with your board and borrow one of their chips. I imagine that it wouldn't cost you much if anything at all. (Depending on how friendly the staff are.)

Aye!

Basically I was about to jump out of the window, when I discovered my mobo has this cool feature - Bios Flashback. Upload a .rom file to a USB flash drive, plug it into USB and press Asus ROG button - it reads the drive and flashes bios with whatever it finds on it. No CPU or RAM required - wow!

Flash the bios and all boots and works now!

Many thanks for all your responces, guys.
