Just curious what the chipset brings to the table. Considering sticking with my 2600k but upgrading the board depending on features. It seems this should get the best mix of overclocking potential and features?

Thoughts?

My thoughts would be its not worth upgrading if you've got a decent Z68 board?

This is the spiritual successor to Z68, with almost the exact same feature set. It has everything Z68 does and then some. For example, USB 3.0 has been integrated into the chipset; four USB 3.0 ports can be powered in this way, along with several of the older USB 2.0 ports. That means an add-on controller chip is no longer required, though many motherboards will still have one so that they can sport more than four USB 3.0 ports. SSD caching, overclocking, dual PCI-Express x8 slots, etc are all still available as well.

Another aspect of the chipset that has been improved is the support for onboard graphics. Once the matching 3rd-generation processors are out, motherboards will be able to offer three simultaneous monitor outputs instead of just two. Onboard graphics will also be faster, but both of those are functions of the newer processors; when paired with older Sandy Bridge CPUs, the speed will be the same as Z68 and the number of monitors supported at a time will still be two.

I totally agree.

I had a look to see what I was missing compared to a Z77 board.

Asrock Z77 Extreme4. Vs. Z68 Extreme4 Gen3
4 x DDR3 2800+(OC) vs. 4 x DDR3 2133(OC)
ATI Quad/CrossFireX vs 3 way ATI Quad/CrossFireX
6 USB 3.0 vs 4 USB 3.0 (Both have 14 USB ports in total)
Crashless, BIOS, OMG, Lucid Virtu MVP vs Lucid Virtu

Not much in my case, unless your into overclocking RAM beyond 2133, or heavy video encoding, both boards have native 16 x 16 Pciex 3.0 support in ATI Quad/CrossFireX.

It works.

I know, I’ve just installed Virtu MVP, unlike Virtu, it so yummy. My old 5850s weren't great at tessellation untill now. So that’s one more reason not to upgrade from a Z68 to Z77.

Personally I would say that if you already have a P67 or Z68 motherboard you wont notice much difference upgrading to a Z77. Maybe worth waiting a little longer to see what Haswell is like.
