Two things... im thinking of getting an i5-3570k, but i wont overclock it... is there any point at all in me getting the k version?

And secondly, are the ivy bridge heat problems only when you overclock the cpu?

Thanks a bunch :)

Temps only seem to be an issue above a certain voltage when overclocking. Ive got a 3570k, oc'd (rather crudely to 4.2ghz via windows utility) not the greatest method tbh. At load in prime 95 it hits 62c max, in game 52c max. This is about 15c lower than my previous i7 920 at 4ghz. Which albeit being another known hot cpu, was overclocked properly in bios.

So I don't really have anything to worry about, since I'm not going to overclock...

So do I need the k version? Isn't that just an unlocked version for overclocking?

Just get the K version, it will have a higher resell value in the future, and you never know, you may want to overclock later on to keep your system going to keep up with later tech.

Yep, the k's are unlocked versions. Tbh, id still opt for the k should you wish to dabble in a bit of overclocking at some point in the future. As the auto program ive used sets voltage a touch high, (1.244v). When clocked properly in bios it's quite possible that i may see a further temp drop.
