Ivy Bridge i7 3770k Benchmarks

Well it looks like we again don't have a major advantage over SB in gaming with IB.Well,if IB is priced at around the same price as SB then it should be a good deal.

Why?, did you expect any more than 5-10% increase from a die shrink with minor tweaks?

Ivybridge is focused around increasing performance/watt, not raw IPC.

It's still a fairly impressive improvement, just widening the gap again between Intel and AMD.
The main improvements are the IGP, and then you've got power/heat improvements.

I wonder how the IGP stacks upto Llano?

According to chiphell 5ghz is easy on these chips (although they said that about SB) so hopefully the overclocks on these should be good. If so will def be getting one!

I do video editing stuff,so i would choose Ivy Bridge.
It would be a good thing though if Intel would keep the price down(SB pricing and maybe 100 pounds more)

I think a lot of us are in the same boat; I'm currently running my 2500K at 4.4, if Ivy can hit 5.0 reliably then along with its IPC increase it will justify the upgrade.

The hardest part is the unknown and the waiting game...

The only thing that's stopping me from upgrading to i5 2500K platform is knowing that IvyBridge will be out within the next 2 quarters...

...if the 3570K (2500K's replacement) is going to be priced like £100 higher than i5 2500K, then I would effectively wait for like nearly half a year for a CPU that's out of the price I'm willing to pay. Even if we don't get solid confirmation for performance, I wish I'd know what the prices are going to be like...

I'll be sticking with SB then. TBH there's very little a 2500K can't handle anyway.

Although 77w is impressive, can't wait for some mobile chips.

Does Ivybridge just drop straight into any existing 1155 mobo??

There was some talk a few months back during pre-BD release that it could require a trip back to the factory for some Motherboards, inorder to be flashed in someway(Not the bios) in order to allow Ivybridge to work. Is there any basis to this or was it just speculation\BD fan fodder trying to put down Ivy?

Seems like it was just scaremongering, my board already has a BIOS out for Ivy.

Good :D My plan is to get a 2500k now. And a decent Ivybridge on release. If Ivy wasn't on the horizon I would get a 2700k now. But I need to buy something now So I'll get a nice Ivy compatible board now, and enjoy the benefits of dropping in an Ivy and selling my 2500k.

The 2500K replacement will be priced accordingly, probably with a small premium but nothing like £100 higher.

Will be interesting to see how well this does. I kinda feel that Intel is holding back, given how poor AMD's showing has been lately.
