I'm in the same boat. Tempted to go sandy, but decided to wait until april. I can save a bit more & get a better board once the newer chipsets are released (Also only 77w tdp, not a massive saving but if it's cheaper to run than my current set up, then it's a no brainer)

Only just upgraded my old e6600 dual forego i5 2500k but have always planned to sell it on and grab an ivybridge processor to ops up the as rock extreme 4 gen 3's pci 3 gfx capabilities.. Gonna b an expensive aprilish next year tho.. New CPU new gfx card and prob new psu

I'll be waiting for Haswell I think. I tend to go for new cpu architecture rather than die shrinks when I upgrade my cpu. Not expecting too much from Ivy over the current Sandy Bridge 1155 chips apart from better temps and higher overclocks.

The most extensive testing done compared an i7-2600 to an i7-3770. Both processors have 8M cache, 3.4 GHz base clock, 4 cores and hyperthreading. The i7-2600 has Intel HD2000 graphics, while the i7-3770 has HD4000 graphics. Tested using Sysmark 2012 (which represents performance using business applications), IB showed a 7% performance increase over SB. HDXPRT (consumer content creation) showed a 14% increase. Cinebench 11.5 showed a 15% performance boost for 3D rendering tasks, while ProShow Gold 4.5 showed a 13% boost for slideshow creation. Each of these tasks is said to show the effect of architecture improvements and higher Turbo Boost 2.0 frequencies. A final CPU test using Excel 2010 showed a 25% performance boost, helped by a faster cache. These figures represent an overall performance boost of about 18% on a wide range of processor intensive tasks.
Testing the graphics performance, we see some much more interesting results. ArcSoft Media Expresso, measuring Intel Quick Sync Video performance, showed a boost of 56%. 3D Mark Vantage graphics subtest using the entry preset showed a gain of 168% in 3D graphics performance.

Core i5 processors that were tested showed a CPU performance boost of between 11% and 13%.

Am I the only one that want a K-series i3 for cheap rather than paying nearly double the price for a i5 K-series?

In my opinion, if there was a i3 K-series and able to overclock as high as the i5 K-series, the i5 K-series won't really offer noticable extra gaming performance with the two extra cores, unless graphic card(s) used are at quite a bit faster than a single GTX580 (i.e. Tri-SLI, Trifire etc).

I wonder what the new Celeron and Pentium chips will be like. I recently bought a Celeron G530 for £36 and it's probably the best performance-per-£ CPU I've ever bought. Compared to an i3-2100, you get about ~80% performance in 1/2 threaded applications and ~65% performance in 3/4 threaded applications, for 40% of the price! Perfect for my HTPC driven by a budget, fanless GPU. Also perfect for any office machine I'd imagine. :)

And that's why Intel won't sell them.

do any of you guys know how much those chips are going to retail at and witch one is the best one to go for in the i7 range im guessing the one with the best clock speed so i would say one of the 3 ghz ones thanks in advanced to any replys you give me peace out :)

I don't think Intel have published prices yet, but from what I have read over the last few weeks, I believe the high-end IB will be slightly more expensive than their SB ccounterparts, keeping high-end SB prices where they are initially.

I can see they will be taking advantage of the fact that AMD are offering no competition, and may even leave the desktop CPU business!

:(

That will be a sad day indeed. I have a feeling that Intel will become like how microsoft was couple of years ago with total dominance in operating systems market.

Definitely a new competitor needs to step-in to prevent intel price monopoly
