I am planning to upgrade my q6600 rig.

New CPU's in March/April

I like i5 2500k, for gaming, general PC use, but will there be a Ivy Bridge alternative (ie around £200) and will I need a different motherboard or will any of the current z68 ones work with the new Ivy bridge CPU's?

I can't tell!

Thanks

There is a replacement for the i5 2500k, assuming it sits at the same price. Not really going to be a big upgrade over the 2500k. So. Depends how desperate you are to upgrade.

It wont be any big loss if you chose to now upgrade though.

Plenty of Gen 3 z68 boards about. z77 doesnt bring much to the table over z68.

I was in the same situation 2 weeks ago and decided to wait. After doing some reading didn't seem worth waiting and purchased a 2500K and MSI Z68A-GD65-G3..

Running at 4.5ghz and will take a Ivy cpu aswell.

I'm looking forward to the z77 ITX range myself. Hopefully asus will satisfy my need!

but yeah would seem the processors will just be 22nm versions of the current range.

There is one that's the same clocks and turbo as the 2700k.
