Hi Guys,
I'm planning my yearly upgrade build.
I just want to know whats the difference between i7 socket2011 and Ivy bridge 1155?

Which is the latest / fastest.

Ivy bridge is the latest and faster clock for clock (same speed) however the 2011 Sandy Bridge CPU's do come in 6 core variants which will obviously beat the 4 core Ivy's in multi-threaded applications.

Also 1155 is being replaced soon by a new socket and "Haswell" chips so no new CPU's for 1155 whereas 2011 is getting Ivy Bridge-E CPU's later in the year.

so if i got 2011 I'm going to be future proofed?

is there a MOBO you can recommend or should i wait until the Ivybridge E is actually announced/released?

It depends what you're using your system for. If its gaming, watching videos, general use etc, then either Ivy Bridge on LGA1155 or wait for Haswell to arrive this summer on LGA1150. But if you're into editing, encoding or anything heavily mulithreaded you're better getting one of the more expensive i7's on LGA2011.

Personally I'm waiting for Haswell to arrive before deciding my upgrade path.
