Ivy Bridge - Worth OC'ing RAM?

Hi Guys,

So I'm just about to start a 3570k build on an MSI Z77-GD65, using 16GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz. Simple question really - will there be any real world benefit to OC'ing the RAM? It will be primarily a gaming rig, although I'd be interested to hear if there would be any benefit in other types of 'real' (i.e. not benchmarks) programs as well.

Thanks

Would it not be better to have asked this before you bought the RAM??? Then buy appropriately???

Stick with 1600mhz on that stuff.

Sure.

You may:
* save 2 seconds every time you depack 650MB file with RAR,
* save 1 second generating 1440x1080 scene with 3DSMax 2012
* have 1 FPS more in Elders Scrolls.

1FPS probably means nothing, but saving precious times has no price ! Less trees will be burnt, less coal will be used in power plants if you use less energy whatsoever

:)

Maybe. I chose the RAM based on the price, and sticking with a manufacturer I know. It's not too late to return it and get something else though, as I haven't even opened it yet.

So what would you recommend, and how much real world benefit would it have?

Don't bother. You'll hardly notice any difference. 16gb is overkill for gaming as well, 8gb is more than enough ;).
