Ivy or Sandy

Sorry guys I forgot reply with what happened...
1st he got a fx990 board and clocked the bulldozer at 4.8 2x 680 only got 10k in 3dmk11 and games were only running the gpu's at 50%.
Then got an ivy 3770k and omg.. Games were now at 99% on both gpu's.

3dmk11...
Bulldozer at 4.8 = 10300
Ivy at 4.7 = 17100

Even tried my old 480soc in it any my 6yr old Intel g0 at 3.9 gets 5900 but the ivy squeezed out 7400.

About £400 for CPU, mobo, ram for what I think is the fastest gaming rig you can get. I recon faster than an extreme 6core on 2011 in games.

It's always good to see positive returns on money invested :D

I mean on Far Cry 3, which would use up to 6 cores, the overclocked FX-8350 was still behind the overclocked i5 by around 10-15fps. If games would use all 8 cores, then the FX-8350 might match the gaming performance of the i5...but good luck on games using 8 cores, when 95%+ of the games are still using 4 cores or less lol.

Have you actually read what you have linked to? Applying your logic on that chart then a phenom x 4 is on par with an i7 980 ??

PD is not as good as some IB/SB cpu's but on par with an i3? lol !

3DMark 11 Physics: PD8350: 6980
i3 3240: 4250

Passmark: PD8350: 9223
i3 3240: 4336

While I agree, it's a poor post, I don't play 3D Mark 11 :p

:D

It's not a very good game, I keep getting the same score all the time !

Just couldn't let someone hand out such terrible advice, annoys me when people post such drivel as some people might just believe them and follow their advice

I don't play Passmark any more either

Passmark tells me a GTX 460 performs much better than a pair of GTX 690s in quad sli.

I always thought those 690s were rubbish now I know its true.:D

Hmmm... passmark shows gtx 460: 2654marks and gtx 690: 4788marks

Maybe kaapstad should've gone to specsavers :D

Hot update, the latest drivers give a small bump in performance :p

At least 2 x GTX 690s in quad sli can now beat a single GTX 460 just lol
