Ivybridge-E set for Q3 2013

Bought it?! Oh god no! ;) I got my retro rig free when my work was throwing out its old workstations, upgraded it with graphics to get a usable backup machine.

Its just as well I did not make any comment about the logic of running a system with 2 Xeons in it.:D

Having said that I used to have a system with RDRAM in it. When it was brand new my mate gave me some benchmark software to test it with. In the memory section the result went off the top of the scale compared to contempory ram. That RDRAM was fast.

The bandwidths were really something compared to its contemporaries- sadly, the latencies left a lot to be desired.

I personally bought in to the X79 platform with the intention of getting an IB-E processor, this included buying a cheaper 3820 processor although at the time I wasn't expecting quite the resulting time frame of Q3 2013 for the IB-E processor to appear but this 3820 does a good enough job for at he moment.

3820 is a very nice processor :) If I had more budget like I originally intended it was a choice between 3820 with an IB-E upgrade eventually or the 3930k.

I also originally intended on getting 3820 > IB-E... however before 3820 was out I got lucky on a 3930k for only marginally more than the pricing that had been announced at the time so took the plunge rather than wait

IB-E being on an extended release works in my favour really as it puts off my upgrade itch that littlebit longer - I'll be quite pleased if I end up getting as long (or longer) out of my 2011 system as I did out of my 775 based build
