IvyBridge

From early reviews it seems as if 4.5 OC is OK with low votes and OK temps but 4.6 tests good coolers and 4.7 gets very toasty indeed.

Basically, past 4.5 it seems like the chips get too hot and often just giving the CPU more volts isn't a recipe for stability.

However, as above, until the NDA is lifted and all testing is revealed we can only go by a few examples, so could in theory mean overclocking is better or indeed worse.

Ivy performance @ 4.5 is very strong, probably not worth moving from Sandy, but for people on old core 2 system like mine it'll be a massive leap.

From people who have bought chips from Hong Kong already it looks as if 4.5 is the max you'll get on air/basic water as the director has said in which case a 4.8-5Ghz SB will outperform it which is attainable with the same cooling.

However if you have custom chilled water or above the IB gets more tempting.
