Hi guys,

Just in the process of putting together a personal site and thought I'd make use of iWeb and my MobileMe subscription. Although having never used this combination before I had a couple of questions...

Now, am I correct in thinking that I could host my website directly to my mobileMe storage as it is, albeit for a slightly rubbish URL, e.g: "www.web.me.com/mysitename/home.html"?

Obviously this is not ideal even for a personal page, so what are the options?Ideally I'd prefer some kind of redirect at the very least, e.g. "www.web.me.com/mysitename", unsure whether this is possible however given the setup here.

The second option (and probably the best) would be to purchase a new domain, e.g. "www.mysitedomain.com" and request the registrar to set the CNAME record to "web.me.com", and then set up my personal domain within MobileMe. The finished article would then be something like "www.mysitedomain.com" whilst hosted on MobileMe?

Anything I've missed here? Cheers...

Think you've got most of the details :)

My sister, who knows nothing about computers, with a little help from myself in regards to the hosting, managed to get her site published to her domain within iweb using mobile me.

Be warned though iweb is extremely limited it's ok for basic stuff, but anything fancier than just some text and photos then you'll need to look elsewhere.

Cool, option 2 is what I'll go for. Yeah iWeb is very basic but its adequate for this particular mini project and I fancied putting it to some use! Cheers.

So I bought my domain name, and configured it as a personal domain within MobileMe. On my registrar (tso host) I have modified the custom dns records as per the following:

A-name record: mydomain.com > web.me.com
CNAME record: www.mydomain.com > web.me.com

Does that sound about right? I know it can take 48-72 hours before it's ready, just want to make sure. Cheers.

you can use opendns and it normaily finds it a lot quicker.. you just change your nameservers ns1[2,3,4,5,6,7 etc] w.e it is to the server onse and it will find it.

Now sorted, had to call them as it turned out there was a problem with the registration as I had entered an invalid name server during registration. My A name record was also incorrect, should have targeted the IP address of web.me.com.

Just waiting for it to become active now. Thanks for the help.
