I thought I would share this with you guys as it may prove to be useful. I've had an IXUS 400 since they came out (2002?) and it's always worked perfectly until a few months ago.

It doesn't get much use and spends most of it's time either in my car, laptop bag or sat in a draw at work but when I went to use it recently I started to get a memory card error. Formatting it would sometimes work but only give me 3.4MB and sometimes it will lock up with an E50 error.

I tried my Extreme III cards from my 20D and I got the same error so it had to be the camera. Thinking it was done for I started to look about for a replacement (although I don't use it much it is useful) and came across a fix for it.

It seems there is a small 3.1v rechargable cell located on the front at the bottom right hand side. Of course you have to take it apart to get to it. Being out of warranty that isn't a problem. Taking that out and waiting awhile and then replacing it effectively resets the camera. Since doing that all is working again!

If it re-occurs i'll replace the battery but at the moment I can't find anywhere in the UK that stocks it.
