Jack bloody Five ( poker )

Well done on getting so far inot the game Rotty. 6th is not a bad showing, as for the beat, welcome to poker, im sure with the amount of time you have played, like me, you have been on both ends of the beat. Still, 500 quid is 500 quid.

I am sure next time you will do better now you have had a taste of ' final table ' glory :)

Some would say you should never had been playing that hand to start with...

Play seemed perectly acceptable to me.

30k to call with 75~k already in the pot, 2.5-1 odds, on an AJ. Yes please.

Depends on how each of us play poker, as that's the beauty of the game, there is not one definite way to play the hand and depending on how you play the game (Tight, Looser aggressive, aggressive e.t.c) then your perceptions differ.

Rotty I think that that hand is the anti-hand to a hand I played once - look on the bright side, it keeps the poker universe in perfect balance. ;)

In the last 3 of a 2000 odd player online tourny - been playing for about 9 hours through the entire night at this point... Blinds where high - I was second in chips by a small margin. Raised with AJ, the slightly shorter stack pushed... I made the call and he turns over A5 (well, it's almost a similar scenario, right? :p) needless to say the 5 shows on the flop and I begin to break down in tears. I kept screaming "JAAAAAAACK, JAAAACK GIVE ME A GOD DAMN JACK!"... And as from heaven a Jack of spades descended as the river. Bare in mind third was about $1200 and second guaranteed $2500+ this was the biggest poker relief I've ever had.

I think the post you've quoted was saying that the guy shouldn't have seen the flop with 97o. Nothing wrong with Rotty's play.

Rotty, unlucky on just missing out on the bigger money and getting a harsh beat but congrats on making the final 6 - great achievement :)

unlucky rotty, however you must have had at least one slice of luck to get to where you did at the end of the night???

me - 9h 9s , flop 7c 8c 9d

I raise and someone goes all in , of course I have to call and hope he hasn't hit straight ( he called decent pre flop raise so 5,6 6,T aren't likely leaving T,J )

he turns over Ac Qc so is drawing for nut flush , turn is harmless and then river comes down a club

the 9 :D

I absolutely LOVE hitting quads. Its rare enough to be special, but often enough to actually be enjoyable. Straight Flushes I've only hit twice - first time was 9,T,J,Q,K - one off the Royal.

Annoying thing about the quads though is when I have them people rarely see them - online they auto muck.... :-)

So good when they hit there flush only to realise you filled the boat or even better like you hit quads, that split second where they think there good is amazing moment it time.

Rather randomly, my next door neighbour owns that club. His house has a massive extension which is a poker room+bar.

Cash game last week I flop a flush with J10 Clubs the board is 678 Clubs I ram it as he might have the A K Q Clubs (didnt put him on 2 clubs) and dont want to be out drawn, no he calls and has 45 Clubs (good of him to take a £10 per flop raise). Turn....... 9 Clubs, that'll be the nut thanks, give me your lunch money!

Strange becuase the torny the day beofre I had q10 hearts (all time fav hand) flop comes J K rag Hearts (rag wasnt a heart), beat that for a draw, of course I missed, couldnt bet into it anyway as I wanted to hit it to much so its didnt realy cost me anything.
